Hungarian WorldSBK Race 2: Toprak Razgatlioglu completes treble at Balaton Park

Toprak Razgatlioglu delivered a performance for the history books at the 2025 Hungarian WorldSBK Race 2 at Balaton Park where he completed a flawless treble with a resounding victory over Nicolo Bulega and Sam Lowes.

The Turkish rider maintained his status as the championship leader and also etched his name further into the annals of World Superbike racing by executing a ninth consecutive win and a third straight weekend hat-trick, displaying exceptional pace, racecraft, and composure from lights to flag.

The highly anticipated Race 2 unfolded under clear, dry conditions, a welcome contrast to the variable weather earlier in the weekend that had challenged riders with wet patches and unpredictable grip.

Razgatlioglu starting from pole position following his previous triumphs in Race 1 and the Superpole Race knew the importance of seizing the initiative early.

Despite a brief exchange in positions as Alvaro Bautista surged to the front on the run to Turn 1, Toprak’s razor-sharp reflexes and instinctive feel for heavy braking zones allowed him to reclaim the lead by Turn 5.

Within two laps, Toprak Razgatlioglu had established a gap of over one second with a series of fast, consistent laps including a new circuit lap record, enabling him to stretch the advantage to more than ten seconds over his main rival Bulega at the checkered flag.

For Nicolo Bulega, the Hungarian round proved a true test of resilience, adaptability, and self-assessment. The Aruba.It Racing – Ducati rider endured a difficult Saturday, compounded by an ill-fated tire choice in the changeable Superpole Race that saw him slide down the order and finish a lowly 13th.

This left the Italian frustrated and hungry for redemption in Race 2, despite a challenging tenth place grid slot. At lights out Bulega mounted an aggressive charge through the field and by the end of the opening lap he had already climbed to P7.

His forward momentum continued unchecked as he picked off rivals, entering into second place by Lap 5. Bulega then focused on consolidating his position but the deficit to Razgatlioglu was simply insurmountable.

In third, Sam Lowes secured his first ever podium in a full-distance WorldSBK race, after initially losing ground but by Lap 3 Lowes powered through on the leading group and became embroiled in a tense battle with Danilo Petrucci who ultimately had to settle fourth after starting all the way back in 11th.

Meanwhile, Andrea Locatelli ensured Yamaha representation in the top five, while Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team celebrated an excellent haul with Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani both finishing in the top ten.

Alex Lowes came home sixth after a spirited race, while his teammate Bassani was not far behind in eighth, with Honda HRC’s Xavi Vierge splitting the Kawasaki duo in seventh.

Further down, Dominique Aegerter put on one of his best showings of the season for GYTR GRT Yamaha in ninth while Yari Montella impressed as the top WorldSBK rookie, rounding out the top ten for Barni.
