Remy Gardner inks 2-year WorldSBK extension with GYTR GRT Yamaha

Remy Gardner has solidified his future in the FIM Superbike World Championship by signing a two-year WorldSBK contract extension with GYTR GRT Yamaha, ensuring his stay with the team through the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

The latest move marks an important moment for the 2021 Moto2 World Champion and also signals Yamaha’s commitment to long-term stability and competitive growth within the fiercely contested WorldSBK paddock.

“I am happy to be continuing with Yamaha in WorldSBK,“ said Gardner who currently sits 11th in the current WorldSBK standings.

“Our journey together so far has been good, but I still feel that we are only scratching the surface of what we can achieve. We’ve shown that when everything comes together, we can be quick and fight for the podium.

“My target is to do this more consistently over the remainder of the 2025 season and look towards taking a further step in 2026.”

Remy Gardner’s journey to WorldSBK

Remy Gardner first entered the WorldSBK arena in 2023 after a challenging and eventful stint in MotoGP, where he experienced both the thrill of grand prix competition as a Tech3 KTM rider before his sudden exit ultimately set the stage for his WorldSBK adventure.

Upon switching to Yamaha for his WorldSBK debut, Gardner was immediately recognized by Yamaha Motor Europe as a young talent with enormous potential.

His Moto2 championship-winning pedigree, racecraft honed across years of international competition, and adaptability made him a prize recruit for Yamaha’s Superbike project.

Gardner’s arrival in the Superbike World Championship came with high expectations, and his maiden season with GRT Yamaha in 2023 was largely a learning curve. Adapting to the unique demands of the Yamaha R1 Superbike and establishing chemistry with the team required patience and diligence.

However, observable progress came swiftly; by the latter part of his rookie campaign Gardner was fighting regularly for points and narrowly missed out on a podium in the final round at Jerez, delivering glimmers of the form that would soon come to define his presence in the series.

The 2024 season ushered in a promising new chapter for Gardner. Building on his foundations, he quickly became a mainstay in the top six, breaking through with his first WorldSBK podium at the legendary TT Circuit Assen — a prestigious stage where racing legends are made.

This result was not a one-off; Gardner’s consistency throughout the year — combining speed, composure, and technical feedback — elevated both his professional reputation and Yamaha’s prospects.

His performances made it evident that he was not only a regular threat within the top ten but a genuine podium contender whenever the right conditions and race strategy aligned.

Perhaps more significant than the immediate results was Gardner’s ability to contribute to the evolution of the Yamaha R1 package.

According to Yamaha Motor Europe’s Racing Sporting Manager Niccolò Canepa, they granted Gardner WorldSBK contract extension because he has distinguished himself through speed, racecraft, precision and detail of his technical feedback.

“Remy has become a valuable member of our line-up over the last few years, not just through his speed and potential, but also his ability to give detailed feedback which proves useful to our engineers as we look to continue developing the R1 in WorldSBK,“ he said.

“We have already seen he can fight for the podium, and the target is to be more consistent in this goal towards the end of this season and then build on this for next year.”
