Pedro Acosta rebounded from two crashes to top Friday afternoon’s Sepang MotoGP practice as both Marco Bezzecchi and Francesco Bagnaia missed out on automatic Q2.
Acosta’s resilience and speed were undeniable as he capitalized on improving track conditions towards the end of the session to establish the best time of 1:57.559, signaling his intent and form as a key figure to watch for the race ahead.
The afternoon practice for 2025 Malaysian MotoGP unfolded on a track that challenged riders with changing conditions, including intermittent rain causing disruption and forcing some to balance risk against potential gain.
Midway through the session rain interrupted the running for a brief period, but later subsided and the track began drying as riders scrambled to set times.
However, the showers struck once more with around 15 minutes remaining, prompting riders to retreat to the pit lane and seemingly bringing the session to an early close.
Pedro Acosta had endured a difficult start to the session as he crashed for the second time at Turn 9 following his FP1 incident, but mastered the treacherous conditions to deliver the fastest lap just before the session was curtailed by rain.
Honda LCR’s Johann Zarco emerged as Acosta’s closest challenger after exploiting the drying conditions effectively to finish second, just 0.019s off the session’s benchmark.
