2026 British MotoGP Sprint Results: Jorge Martin leads Aprilia 1-2-3 as Ducati struggles

Jorge Martin claimed lights-to-flag victory at the 2026 British MotoGP Sprint in an Aprilia podium lockout, while Ducati’s Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia struggled.

Martin resisted a brief challenge from Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura before crossing the finish line 1.530 seconds clear, while Marco Bezzecchi completed a historic Aprilia 1-2-3 in third.

Meanwhile, the day painted a sobering picture for Ducati struggles: reigning champion Marc Marquez crossed the line in a dismal ninth place after visibly suffering from grip degradation in the closing laps, with teammate Francesco Bagnaia crawling home in 17th.

When the lights went out for the 10-lap sprint at Silverstone, Jorge Martin made the perfect getaway from pole position, slicing cleanly into Abbey at the head of the field and establishing his authority at the very first corner.

The movement behind him was dramatic as Ogura made an aggressive move from third on the grid to second, while Fabio di Giannantonio used the straight-line power of his Ducati GP26 to charge forward from fourth, quickly disposing of Raul Fernandez, who suffered a poor launch and dropped to sixth.

Cal Crutchlow crashed in the opening turns and was forced to remount before eventually retiring from the race.

Iker Lecuona also fell at the Vale chicane on the opening lap in an incident with Franco Morbidelli, gesturing emphatically as he climbed to his feet, clearly feeling that the VR46 rider had forced him off — a matter which FIM Stewards investigated and took no further action.

Marco Bezzecchi, meanwhile, battled with Marc Marquez for fourth in the early going, before the Ducati rider managed to force his way through under braking at Stowe Corner to put Bezzecchi behind him.

By the end of the second lap, Martin was already demonstrating the kind of composed, calculating pace management that has defined his championship campaign in 2026. He sat at the head of a field led by his three Aprilia machines — himself, Ogura, and di Giannantonio — and began to build his breathing room.

Back in the battle for fourth, Bezzecchi was gradually working his way back through the order, shaking off the physical difficulties of riding competitively just weeks after surgery.

Behind him, Raul Fernandez was growing increasingly frustrated, finding himself blocked behind the recovering Bezzecchi and unable to make progress.

That frustration ultimately cost Fernandez dearly on lap four when an attempt to force his way past the factory Aprilia at The Loop saw him lose the front end of his RS-GP26 and slide out of the race.

On lap five, Bezzecchi repassed Marc Marquez using the RS-GP26’s exceptional cornering ability out of Copse and into Becketts, leaving the defending champion defenseless as Ducati’s afternoon began to unravel.

Ogura, meanwhile, moved to challenge Martin’s lead on lap six, but the championship leader responded with characteristic authority, lifting his pace to build the gap once more and ultimately win by 1.530 seconds.

Bezzecchi chased down Di Giannantonio in the battle for third, and eventually drew into the slipstream of the VR46 Ducati before powering past into Copse to settle the Aprilia podium lockout.

Gresini’s Alex Marquez also made his way past Di Giannantonio to claim the strongest result of the day for the Italian manufacturer in fourth, with the latter ultimately settling for fifth.

The closing stages of the race saw Marc Marquez’s afternoon deteriorate from disappointing to outright difficult. Visibly struggling with a lack of rear grip Marquez was caught and passed in succession by KTM’s Pedro Acosta and then by Honda’s Joan Mir, and finally by Franco Morbidelli’s Pertamina VR46 GP25 machine.

The reigning champion ultimately crossed the line in ninth place with LCR Honda rookie Diogo Moreira finishing just 0.027 seconds behind him in tenth.

Francesco Bagnaia, meanwhile, spent the race struggling for confidence and could only manage 17th place, reflecting a day that simply could not have gone worse for the Ducati Lenovo factory team.
