2026 MotoGP pre-season test schedule: Venues and dates confirmed

The 2026 MotoGP pre-season test schedule has been officially confirmed, marking a significant milestone as the sport prepares for the final season featuring the iconic 1000cc bikes.

This historic year will close the chapter on the 1000cc era, which has defined MotoGP racing since its introduction in 2012, before the transition to the new 850cc engine regulations set to take effect in 2027.

The excitement around the 2026 season is already building, with pre-season testing dates and venues announced—these will set the tone for teams and riders eager to preview their machinery and preparations for a season of high stakes and thrilling competition.

The pre-season testing will commence with the Sepang shakedown at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from January 29th to 31st, 2026.

The three-day session is an important opportunity for test riders, rookies, and riders from concession manufacturers such as Yamaha and Honda to get early track time.

Following this, the official Sepang MotoGP test will take place at the same venue from February 3rd to 5th. All teams and riders will be present for this crucial event as they fine-tune their bikes, try out upgrades, and gather performance data ahead of the competitive season.

The choice of Sepang for these early testing is fitting, given the circuit’s long-standing reputation as a favored testing ground due to its challenging conditions and technical layout, providing teams with valuable feedback on stability, aerodynamics, and tyre management.

In a new addition for 2026, the official season launch event is scheduled for February 6th and 7th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s vibrant capital city.

This event will precede the final pre-season test session, allowing for a dynamic mixing of promotional activities with direct engagement from the teams, riders, and fans.

Kuala Lumpur’s selection highlights the growing importance of Southeast Asia as a MotoGP hub and the logistical convenience it offers with Sepang located nearby.

It is anticipated that the season launch will bring together all stakeholders to unveil bikes, team line-ups, and future strategies in a high-profile setting, adding buzz and visibility just before the last stretch of testing.

MotoGP pre-season testing will conclude with a two-day Buriram MotoGP Test, on February 21st and 22nd. The venue, which hosts the season-opening Thai Grand Prix, presents teams with the challenge of testing on a track that requires precision and speed, preparing them ideally for the season start scheduled from February 27th to March 1st.
