Brazilian Moto2 sensation Diogo Moreira is set to make 2026 MotoGP debut as Johann Zarco‘s teammate after signing a multi-year deal with Honda LCR.
The groundbreaking move marks a huge milestone in the young rider’s career as he takes a decisive step from the intermediate Moto2 class to the pinnacle of motorcycle racing with a manufacturer and team renowned for their long-term commitment to nurturing talents.
Moreira’s announcement has sent waves of excitement across the MotoGP paddock and among fans, as he is widely considered one of the brightest prospects of his generation.
Diogo Moreira hails from São Paulo, Brazil, and first entered the world championship scene in the Moto3 category in 2022.
During his Moto3 tenure, he distinguished himself with outstanding performances that included one race win, three podium finishes and two pole positions across 39 races.
Demonstrating a rapid learning curve and exceptional racecraft, Moreira smoothly transitioned to Moto2 in 2024 where he immediately earned the title of Rookie of the Year.
His rookie season was marked by impressive consistency and pace and he took on an even stronger challenge in 2025 when he emerged as a serious championship contender.
At this point in the 2025 season, Moreira is just nine points behind the championship leader having amassed three notable victories in Assen, Austria, and Indonesia, alongside five additional podium finishes.
His performances underscore not only his innate speed but also his maturity and resilience, essential attributes for succeeding in the premier class.
Honda LCR’s decision to bring Moreira into MotoGP is a clear demonstration of their dedicated focus on building a future around young, talented riders.
The collaboration between LCR and Honda Racing Corporation has a rich history of supporting emerging talents and integrating them seamlessly into the highest level of motorcycle racing.
For 2026, Moreira will replace Somkiat Chantra as Johann Zarco’s teammate after the latter signed a two-year deal to remain with the team through the end of 2027.

“Joining the MotoGP World Championship with Honda LCR is a dream come true,” the 21-year old rider said in a team statement.
“I want to thank Honda and the team for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to learn, to grow, and to fight for strong results at the top level of motorcycle racing.”
LCR Honda Team Principal Lucio Cecchinello added: “We are very pleased to announce that Diogo Moreira is joining our team.
“Without a doubt, Diogo possesses all the qualities to become one of the greats in MotoGP. He has undeniable talent, a deep passion for racing, and has proven his speed across all types of motorcycles and disciplines.
“On behalf of the entire LCR Team, I extend a warm welcome to Diogo and thank Honda HRC for entrusting us with this exciting project for 2026.”
Moreira’s arrival completes the 2026 MotoGP grid, solidifying the lineup for one of the most competitive and diverse fields ever seen.
As the final piece of the puzzle, his signing also signals the start of a gradual revamp of Honda’s rider roster leading into the 2027 season especially after their unsuccessful attempt to secure Jorge Martín for the highly anticipated 850cc era.
With a bike that is steadily improving and many key riders’ contracts expiring at the end of 2026, Honda aims to build a strong foundation centered on talented riders like Moreira.
