Marc Marquez injury recovery will see him miss the next two MotoGP rounds in Australia and Malaysia as he urges fans not to have “hard feelings” towards Marco Bezzecchi for Indonesia MotoGP crash.
The newly crowned 2025 MotoGP world champion sustained a significant shoulder injury after a high-speed collision with Bezzecchi during the opening lap of the 2025 Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika circuit.
Marquez who started the race from the third row was making forward progress when Bezzecchi, starting from pole position, lost momentum off the line and immediately attempted to recover ground.
In a rapid series of events, Bezzecchi’s front tyre made contact with the rear of Marquez’s Ducati at Turn 7 causing the Spaniard to slide off the track at high speed.
Meanwhile, Bezzecchi was unable to maintain control of his Aprilia and as well crashed heavily into the runoff area, with both bikes leaving a trail of debris and dust.
The collision was severe enough to immediately concern medical teams with Marquez visibly in pain as he rolled on the gravel, clutching his right shoulder.

Despite the severity of their early Indonesia MotoGP crash out, both riders were able to stand and walk away from the scene with Bezzecchi apologizing trackside for the incident.
However, the full extent of Marquez’s injuries soon became apparent after medical assessments revealed he had suffered a fracture at the base of the coracoid process—part of the collarbone—and ligament damage to his right shoulder.
The seven-time premier class world champion was quickly transported to a medical facility and subsequently flown to Spain for further evaluation and treatment.
Ducati’s statement confirmed that while the injury is serious, no surgical intervention is planned at this stage.
“After undergoing several medical examinations at Hospital Ruber Internacional it was found that Marc Márquez had suffered a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder,” read the statement.
“Clinical examination and radiological assessment have ruled out any connection with previous injuries and have also confirmed the absence of significant bone displacement.
“For this reason, the medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuña and Dr. Ignacio Roger de Oña has opted for a conservative treatment plan, involving rest and immobilization of the affected shoulder until full healing and clinical consolidation of the fracture.“

New 2025 MotoGP Championship Standings after Indonesia GP
Ducati also confirmed Marquez will miss the upcoming MotoGP rounds in Australia and Malaysia, scheduled for October 19 and 26.
The two races are critical parts of the MotoGP calendar and will see him replaced by Ducati’s test rider Michele Pirro who is set to make his first 2025 race appearance as he undergoes recovery.
This absence means that Marquez will not be competing for points in these double-header races, although his championship victory in Japan ensures that his absence will not affect the overall standings for the season.
Marquez addressed the incident with measured words after the crash, expressing sadness over the injury but also recognizing the nature of the incident as part of racing.
He appealed for calm within the MotoGP community amid criticism directed at Marco Bezzecchi and emphasized the importance of focusing on recovery.
“Not the best way to celebrate the championship, but this is racing,“ he said. “Please, no hard feelings towards Marco, nobody does it on purpose.
“Thanks for all your support”
The latest Marc Marquez injury is especially poignant given it was on the same shoulder that he fractured in July 2020 during the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
The previous injury had required multiple surgeries and a lengthy recovery period. Fortunately, the current injury is not connected to prior complications and there is no significant bone displacement which bodes well for the potential of a full recovery without surgery.
