
Max Verstappen is confident the new Red Bull front wing upgrade introduced for this weekend’s 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix will make a difference, as he eyes the elusive victory to ramp up his title fight against McLaren.
Despite Verstappen’s stellar record this season, including recent pole-to-flag victories in Italy and Azerbaijan, he has never managed to win at Marina Bay after eight attempts.
The latest aerodynamic development is a strategic move to optimize car performance on the Singapore street circuit, well known for its demanding high downforce requirements and challenging street layout.
The new front wing is described by Red Bull as an “evolution of the design,” incorporating locally increased cambers on specific wing sections.
This subtle but precise refinement is intended to extract more aerodynamic load, or downforce, without sacrificing flow stability.
Increased camber in wing elements generally intensifies the wing’s curvature, which translates into more aggressive airflow manipulation and higher downforce generation.
This design choice is critical on a track like Singapore, where mechanical grip alone isn’t sufficient and aerodynamic efficiency at low speeds is vital for optimal cornering performance.
Given that Marina Bay is a circuit known for tight corners and limited straight-line speeds, enhancing front-end grip plays a crucial role in improving lap times.
This upgrade also aligns with Max Verstappen’s driving style, which favors a car with responsive front-end grip to push the limits in tight sections.

The impact of the new Red Bull front wing upgrade was evident during Friday’s practice, where Verstappen demonstrated a notably improved rhythm and pace through the circuit’s low-speed corners, averaging around three-tenths of a second per lap faster than key rivals like McLaren.
This improvement is substantial on a street circuit where tenths of seconds often dictate qualifying positions and race outcomes.
Verstappen’s positive feedback suggests the new front wing helps him achieve a more “positive front-end” feel, allowing for sharper turn-in and better stability through the complex corners around Marina Bay.
“FP1 started quite nicely, we were just getting up to speed with things, but the car was not bad,” he said. “A bit like the last two weekends where there were no major problems.
“Then in FP2 a few things that we tried, some were good, so we just need to try and optimise that a bit more. But overall, in general I’m quite satisfied, but definitely we need a bit more pace to fight up at the front tomorrow.”

Beyond the front wing, Red Bull has also introduced an upgraded engine cover with an enlarged exit. This modification enhances cooling efficiency by improving the exhaust of hot air from the engine bay without the need for larger or more disruptive cooling louvres.
Cooling is a critical consideration for the F1 Singapore Grand Prix due to the circuit’s hot and humid tropical climate, which places additional thermal stress on car components.
Efficiently managing engine temperatures allows for optimal performance and reliability during the race, especially over long stints where overheating could otherwise degrade power output or cause mechanical issues.
In contrast to Red Bull’s aggressive development push, several other leading teams, including McLaren and Ferrari, have opted not to introduce new significant upgrades for this weekend’s race.
Mercedes has made minor aerodynamic adjustments with a reprofiled front-wing flap aimed at reducing localized load to achieve better car balance specific to Singapore’s unique demands, but nothing on the same scale as Red Bull’s front wing innovation.
This distinction underscores Red Bull’s commitment to extracting every ounce of race-winning performance from the RB21 as the title fight intensifies through the remaining 7 rounds of the 2025 F1 season.
