Formula 1 has confirmed its 2027 calendar with the championship set to feature 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and a record 10 Sprint races.
The schedule will begin in Bahrain on March 12–14 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 10–12, while Monaco will host a Sprint for the first time in the sport’s history.
Portugal will return to the calendar, Türkiye will also make its comeback, and the Sprint format will be expanded from six events to 10 as Formula 1 continues to increase the amount of competitive action available to fans throughout the season.
In addition to the 24 Grands Prix, teams will take part in pre-season testing in Bahrain from February 24–27, giving drivers and constructors their first opportunity to evaluate their cars before the opening round.
The decision to increase the number of Sprint weekends represents one of the most significant changes to the 2027 F1 calendar. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi will stage Sprint events for the first time, while Sprint racing will return to Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil and Qatar.
The expanded programme means fans will receive additional wheel-to-wheel action at 10 selected weekends rather than watching the traditional three practice sessions, qualifying and Grand Prix format at every round.
Formula 1 has justified the expansion by pointing to the growing popularity of Sprint weekends. According to the championship, total viewership at Sprint events has been 12 percent higher than at non-Sprint weekends since the format was introduced in 2021.
Formula 1 also says Sprint Qualifying is up to three times more popular with fans, while 82 percent of spectators attending Sprint weekends believe the format adds value to their tickets.
