Toprak Razgatlioglu beats COTA lap record on a stock-spec BMW M1000RR

Double WorldSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu obliterated MotoAmerica’s COTA lap record on a much slower superstock-spec BMW M1000RR during his recent test at the Circuit of the Americas.

During the session, which took place in the break between the World Superbike event at Magny-Cours and the upcoming Aragon round, Toprak stunned the motorsport community by posting lap times faster than those recorded in a MotoAmerica Superbike event at the same track.

This was a remarkable feat due to the fact that it was his first visit to COTA, and he ran on a much slower Superstock-spec BMW M1000RR compared to a World Superbike machine.

Razgatlioglu participated in the test alongside Alpha Racing and posted an outstanding lap time of 2m6.790s, beating this year’s MotoAmerica Superbike COTA lap record, which was a 2m7.078s pole time set by Cameron Beaubier.

In a light-hearted response to Razgatlioglu’s post after the COTA test, Beaubier who also rides a BMW in the US Superbike series, jokingly replied “Goodness, dude, go away,” highlighting the respect and admiration within the racing fraternity for the Turkish star’s achievement.

Razgatlioglu’s lap times during the COTA BMW Superstock test stand as a testament to his skill and adaptability, particularly given he was riding a stock-spec bike, which typically offers less performance tuning than a full Superbike.

His ability to achieve such a competitive time on a less modified machine further emphasizes his exceptional riding talent and his capacity to quickly learn and master new circuits.

Former WorldSBK and MotoGP race winner Marco Melandri hailed Razgatlioglu as “the king,” underscoring the esteem with which Toprak is held in the sport.

The test also showcased Toprak Razgatlioglu’s readiness and preparation as he approaches the final stages of the World Superbike 2025 season, in which he is leading the championship with a 39-point gap over Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega.

The test at COTA comes at a crucial time as Razgatlioglu balances his championship campaign while also preparing for an eventual move to MotoGP next year, where he is set to join the Pramac Yamaha team alongside Jack Miller.

This test can be seen as both a way for him to stay sharp on different machinery and circuits and as part of his broader preparation for transitioning to MotoGP competition.
