Mercedes-AMG has revealed next-generation GT3 and Black Series prototypes which will be based on the Concept AMG GT Track Sport teased last year.
The announcement, timed perfectly amid the intensifying World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship seasons, signals the German brand’s unwavering commitment to dominating GT3 categories globally.
The genesis of this dual-project powerhouse traces back to October 2025, when camouflaged prototypes—adorned in striking yellow-green and red accents—first hit the tarmac for rigorous dynamic testing.
These initial runs took place at Mercedes-AMG‘s in-house Immendingen track, followed by challenging circuits like Bilster Berg in Germany, Portimão in Portugal, and Monteblanco in Spain, pushing the limits of aerodynamics, chassis dynamics and powertrain endurance.
By early 2026, development escalated to the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife where the prototypes underwent high-speed laps to fine-tune their predatory handling and outright pace.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 is poised to succeed the battle-hardened GT3 Evo that has racked up victories in iconic 24-hour classics at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring.
Developed in-house by the newly established Affalterbach Racing GmbH—a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-AMG—the next-generation car promises to elevate the brand’s customer racing legacy which began in earnest in 2011 with the SLS AMG GT3 and evolved through the 2016 GT3 and 2020 Evo models.
Targeted for 2027 racing debut, the car aims to set new standards in performance, safety and competitiveness across series like the WEC and IMSA, where Mercedes customer teams such as Iron Lynx have already made waves with strong finishes.
The GT3’s red accents now define its visual identity within the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport color scheme, a deliberate choice symbolizing aggression and precision on the global stage.
“With the unveiling of the concept, we can now officially name the next-gen Mercedes‑AMG GT3, with which we aim to continue the success story in Customer Racing for Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport,” said head of Mercedes-AMG motorsport Christopher Sagemuller.
“Our goal is to once again present a vehicle that sets the benchmark. We have already gained important insights from the initial tests. We are now entering the next phase of development and will also be testing on racetracks relevant to GT Sport.”
Complementing the race-bred GT3 is the roadgoing Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the most radical iteration yet of AMG’s legendary Black Series lineage, which has produced street monsters like the SLK 55 AMG Black Series in 2006—the very first to transplant pure racing DNA into a road-legal package.
“We are developing the most extreme Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series ever,” said Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH Michael Schiebe. “At the same time, we want to set the next record-breaker in motorsport with the future GT3.
“The foundation for this is the Concept AMG GT Track Sport – a technology demonstrator that was more than just a concept from the very start. It is our unambiguous commitment to maximum performance, a promise for the racetrack and the road alike.
“At AMG, we develop vehicles to exceed expectations. And that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do.”
