Mathys Jaubert romped Genesis Magma Racing to its first-ever World Endurance Championship pole position after dominating qualifying for Sunday’s Barcelona 6 Hours.
Jaubert powered the No. 17 Genesis GMR-001 to a stunning 1m30.166s in Hyperpole to beat championship-leading No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid of Ryo Hirakawa by 0.170 seconds.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Jaubert who became the youngest pole-sitter in the series’ history at 21 thanks to Genesis maiden WEC pole. ”The car was just amazing. It was all about putting it together on a track that’s tricky with low grip. We went for the right strategy on tyres, and here we are.”
