Marco Bezzecchi claimed lights-to-flag victory at the 2026 Thai MotoGP for Aprilia Racing as Ducati missed out on the podium following Marc Marquez’s dramatic late‑race tyre failure.
The Italian rider, starting from pole position, showcased exceptional control and strategy amid challenging conditions that forced multiple bike swaps, ultimately finishing over 5.5 seconds ahead of KTM’s Pedro Acosta.
Bezzecchi had already set the tone by topping every practice session, culminating in a pole lap of 1m28.652s despite a late crash in qualifying that left him shaken but undeterred.
As the lights went out for the 25-lap grand prix, Marco Bezzecchi nailed the perfect launch, threading his Aprilia RS-GP26 into Turn 1 ahead of Ducati’s Marc Marquez and Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez.
The Italian’s getaway was flawless, building a 0.7-second lead by the end of lap one and extending it to a full second on lap two, demonstrating the superior straight-line speed and cornering prowess of his bike under the Thai sun.
Fernandez followed suit and swept past Marquez into second place by Turn 7 with a bold move through the circuit’s rapid direction changes, while Jorge Martin added to Aprilia’s early show of strength by diving inside Marquez at Turn 3 on lap four with a late-braking masterstroke.
Marquez appeared uncharacteristically cautious in the opening exchanges, slipping to fourth as young KTM sensation Pedro Acosta, fresh off his Sprint victory, pressured from behind.

By lap five, the race hierarchy was taking shape with Bezzecchi cruising 1.8s clear, his lap times consistently in the low 1m29s range, a testament to his smooth riding style that minimized tyre wear on the abrasive Thai asphalt.
Fernandez held second 2.5s adrift but the real intrigue unfolded mid-pack where Martin and Acosta traded positions aggressively for third.
Acosta lunged into the final corner on lap nine, only for Martin to counterattack at Turn 3 the following lap, their duel allowing Marquez to slipstream past both and reclaim third place momentarily.
Bezzecchi pitted for his flag-to-flag bike swap in lap 12 and rejoined seamlessly at the head of the field with a 3-second buffer intact, thanks to his Aprilia crew for their lightning-fast 8-second stop.
Fernandez followed suit, maintaining second, while Marquez’s Ducati team faltered slightly with a 10-second pit stop, dropping him to fifth upon return.
Acosta, ever the opportunist, gained two places through the pits, emerging in third and immediately closing on Fernandez with blistering wet-weather pace that recalled his Sprint heroics where he shadowed Marquez closely.
Further back, Di Giannantonio held firm in fourth, benefiting from Ducati’s stable chassis in the spray, while Martin dropped to sixth after a minor slide on exit from Turn 1 post-pit.
Fernandez struggled with rear tyre wear in the mixed conditions, his Trackhouse Aprilia snapping sideways into Turn 12, allowing Acosta to breeze past for second on lap 19.
Marquez, pushing hard to recover, had clawed back to fourth by this point, trading fastest laps with Di Giannantonio in a duel that showcased the eight-time world champion’s unrelenting aggression despite visible frustration over his earlier lost time.
Further down, Fernandez’s teammate Ai Ogura impressed in fifth, his smooth inputs keeping Joan Mir’s Honda at bay in the battle for the final top-six position.
Lap 22 brought the race’s defining moment when Marquez hit a curb violently after running wide through Turn 8 while in pursuit of Di Giannantonio. The impact dislodged his rear tyre, triggering a slow puncture that sent vibrations through the bike, forcing an immediate retirement with the rim damaged beyond repair.
Marc Marquez retirement stunned the paddock, ending what promised to be another podium masterclass effectively handing Acosta second place unchallenged.
Moments later, Gresini’s Alex Marquez crashed out from eighth while attempting to match his brother’s pace, a bitter double blow for Ducati.
Bezzecchi unaware of the drama behind maintained his metronomic rhythm with his lead ballooning to over 5 seconds at the checkered flag to claim victory at the 2026 Thai MotoGP for Aprilia.
Raul Fernandez took the final podium spot, Jorge Martin recovered admirably to fourth as Ai Ogura rounded out the top five.
