George Russell led from lights to flag to claim Formula 1 Singapore GP victory as McLaren sealed the 2025 F1 Constructors title amid controversial Lando Norris–Oscar Piastri clash.
The night race under the bright lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit delivered a thrilling and dramatic spectacle as Russell converted his qualifying advantage into a flawless win over Max Verstappen to mark his second victory of the season and fifth of his Formula 1 career.
The damp conditions from rain less than an hour before the start had reset track grip, but most drivers opted to run on dry tyres, adding an extra challenge in the opening moments.
On Lap 1, Russell got off the line cleanly and surged into the lead, while Verstappen who started on soft tyres struggled to maximize his initial advantage off the line.
This allowed the McLaren duo to aggressively challenge him in the opening sector with Lando Norris immediately asserting his intent by jumping ahead of Kimi Antonelli at Turn 1.
As the field progressed towards Turn 3, Norris aggressively attacked his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in a close battle that would later spark a controversial incident.
Norris’s wheel tangled with Piastri’s side as he narrowly avoided making contact with the rear of Verstappen’s Red Bull but managed to surpass his teammate for third place.

A frustrated Piastri lamented “that wasn’t very team like” over the team radio before seemingly requesting McLaren to swap the positions again.
“So are we cool with Lando just barging me out of the way or? What’s the go to there?”
However, The stewards viewed this as a racing incident and announced they would be taking no action, which Piastri annoyed further.
“That is not fair. I am sorry. That’s not fair. If he has to avoid another car by crashing into his teammate than that is a pretty **** job of avoiding it.”
Meanwhile, George Russell’s control over the race was largely unchallenged as he consistently extended his lead from the front.
His mastery of the Marina Bay circuit combined with a well-executed Medium to Hard tyre one-stop strategy, allowed him to gradually build a margin of just over five seconds before the sole pit stop phase and then extend it further to clinch the 2025 Singapore GP victory.

The calm precision in his driving echoed some of the strongest performances seen on this circuit in recent years, proving once again that Russell is a formidable threat when starting from pole.
Max Verstappen recovered from the first lap contact and fought hard to defend second place against Lando Norris, who relentlessly closed the gap during the mid-race phases to finish just over half a second behind the Red Bull.
Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri recalibrated and settled into fourth position as his frustration with the opening lap incident lingered.
However, the 3-4 finish saw McLaren seal 2025 F1 Constructors title, marking their first back-to-back constructors’ victories since 1990-1991.
Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli drove a solid race from midfield, wrestling back lost positions at the start and eventually executing a skillful overtaking maneuver on Charles Leclerc into Turn 16 during his second stint to reclaim fifth place.
Antonelli’s defense was notable as he also kept Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton at bay, before the latter started struggling with brakes and fell behind Leclerc.
Hamilton was later handed a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits at the race’s end — promoting Fernando Alonso to seventh place.
Behind them, Haas’s Ollie Bearman scored valuable points by finishing ninth, continuing his promising rookie campaign, while Carlos Sainz rebounded from a double Williams disqualification in qualifying to finish tenth.
