George Russell clinched the first Sprint victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season after fending off an aggressive early onslaught from Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and overcoming a chaotic late safety car.

Russell crossed the line 0.6 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc with Hamilton 1.2 seconds back in third, securing maximum Sprint points and extending his drivers’ championship lead to 33 points.

McLaren’s Lando Norris settled for fourth, while Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli charged back to fifth after a slow start, overtaking Oscar Piastri who ultimately took sixth.

Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and Haas’ Oliver Bearman rounded out the points in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Red Bull endured a nightmare race that saw Max Verstappen salvage ninth, while Isack Hadjar limped to 15th as both cars struggled with pace off the line.
