Ferrari unveils their brand-new SF-24 for 2024 F1

Ferrari have revealed their brand-new SF-24 making them the latest Formula One team to showcase their 2024 F1 car.

Ferrari unveiled the SF-24 contender for the 2024 Formula 1 Championship that the team hopes has the potential to challenge Red Bull for the top spot in the standings.

Following the announcement last week that Lewis Hamilton will be joining Maranello in 2025, Ferrari is fired up and ready to go after more than just one victory this season, as they did in 2023.

The Maranello-based Formula 1 team debuted its new car one day ahead of schedule this year to spare an extra day to spend getting ready for the pre-season testing that will take place in Bahrain next week.

The all-new car will be dubbed SF-24, carrying on the heritage that the Scuderia started in 2014, marking the start of the new hybrid era.

The Ferrari driver lineup will remain unchanged as Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will race for the Italian squad together for the final time before seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton joins the team in 2025.

Ferrari debuted last year’s SF-23 with a massive fanfare and ceremony in the presence of 500 fans at its Fiorano circuit. However, the car did not live up to the expectations, as the Scuderia struggled to win only one of 22 Grands Prix and concluded the season third in the Constructors’ Championship, 454 points behind ultimately crowned champions Red Bull.

The team has made comprehensive revisions to last year’s car and claims that the 2024 F1 challenger is “95% new” compared to its predecessor, after a challenging 2023 F1 campaign in which Carlos Sainz helped Ferrari secure a single victory.

Ferrari have barely changed the colour scheme of their new SF-24 in comparison to its predecessor, while a number of rivals who have already unveiled their latest cars have opted for a primarily black livery in an effort to cut weight.

The new car has lesser shades of black with parallel yellow and white lines running along the entirety of the sidepod and on the nose cone. The colour yellow honors both the city of Modena and Ferrari’s WEC 499P, a racer in the World Endurance Championship that won the prestigious Le Mans race.

Ferrari begins its second season under the direction of Fred Vasseur. Over the last few years, the squad has suffered serious problems with strategy calls and reliability.

After taking over as team principal in January of last year, Vasseur immediately began implementing significant reforms at Ferrari and as the season progressed, multiple podiums and pole positions were secured.

Late last season team boss Fred Vasseur revealed that “95% new components” would be used in the 2024 car meaning that significant changes were made over the winter.

The SF-24 marks the first Ferrari that Vasseur has properly overseen since taking up his position in January of last year when the SF-23’s development was nearing completion.

“Presenting a new car to the world for the first time is always a very exciting moment for me and the drivers even if we are all already thinking about the moment we will go head to head with our rivals on track,” Vasseur said.

“This year, we must start off where we left off at the end of last season, when we were consistent front runners, with a view to constantly improving in all areas.

“The longest ever Formula 1 season awaits us and Charles, Carlos and I all agree, we must be more clinical and effective in how we manage the races, making bold choices, in order to get the best possible result at every Grand Prix.

“It’s often said that your fans can give you an extra gear and that will definitely be true in what will be a very closely contested championship and we are proud to know we can count on our tifosi from around the world.”

Ferrari also confirmed that Carlos Sainz will be giving the SF-24 its track debut and shakedown run at Fiorano later in the day.

Only Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull remain to wrap up the launch season following Ferrari’s unveiling. The three scheduled reveals are slated for Wednesday and Thursday.
