F1 2026 Spanish Grand Prix FP2 Results: Kimi Antonelli fastest, Arvid Lindblad crashes

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli set the pace in interrupted second practice for the 2026 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, while Arvid Lindblad became the first driver to crash at the demanding Madring circuit.

Antonelli, the championship leader coming off an epic comeback win in Monza, delivered a fastest lap of 1:33.662 around the halfway mark of the one-hour session to edge out Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton by little more than a tenth of a second.

Fernando Alonso was forced to remain in the Aston Martin garage at the outset of FP2 after his team identified a clutch issue that had developed during first practice.

Lando Norris, meanwhile, was sidelined by a gearbox issue after he had completed just two laps. McLaren confirmed that a gearbox change would be required, a process that consumed the bulk of the session and left Norris without a meaningful lap time.

Despite the disruptions, the remainder of the field streamed out of the pitlane with Haas driver Esteban Ocon among the first to establish a benchmark of 1:37.878 on his opening lap.

Ocon’s time was quickly swept aside as the faster machinery came up to temperature, and within the first ten minutes of running Kimi Antonelli posted a 1:34.428 on medium tyres, beating Charles Leclerc by six tenths.

Max Verstappen then surged to the top with a 1:34.378, but was immediately bested by FP1 leader George Russell followed by Antonelli.

Halfway through the session, majority of the field bolted on the soft-compound Pirelli tyres and Antonelli was the first to demonstrate the full potential, setting a 1:33.662 lap that would ultimately stand as the fastest of the afternoon.

However, the first red flag of the weekend at Madring came shortly after when Arvid Lindblad pushed too hard on an already strong fourth-place showing and lost control of his Racing Bulls at Turn 13, crashing heavily into the barriers.

When the session resumed following Lindblad’s crash, the order at the top of the timesheet barely changed with Antonelli leading Ferrari’s Leclerc and Hamilton.

Lindblad held onto fourth despite the setback, followed by Russell, Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon and Liam Lawson.
