Charles Leclerc signs new multi-year Ferrari contract extension

Charles Leclerc has signed a multi-year Ferrari contract extension for “the coming seasons,” the Scuderia confirmed ahead of his home race, the 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

While Ferrari confirmed the long-term deal, they did not disclose the exact length of the contract or specific financial details, simply stating that Leclerc will continue racing in red for the coming seasons.

This marks Leclerc’s second contract renewal with Ferrari, following his previous multi-year agreement signed in 2024, demonstrating the enduring partnership between the driver and the team.

The 28-year-old Monegasque driver joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2016 where he spent two years before stepping up to Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo in 2018.

Leclerc later joined Ferrari in 2019 and has gone on to claim eight Grand Prix victories with the Scuderia, including his breakthrough win at the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix, and a career-best championship finish in third in 2024.

“I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari HP,“ Leclerc said. “It has always been so much more than just a team to me. It’s the team I’ve loved and dreamt of being part of since I was a child, and after all these years it has become a second family.

“Together we’ve shared incredible moments and some tougher ones, but I believe in this team more than ever, and I’m deeply grateful that we will keep pushing side by side toward our shared goal of bringing the World Championship back to Maranello.

“Being a Ferrari driver is a dream, but it’s also a responsibility I never take for granted. I’ll continue to give absolutely everything I have to bring this team back to where it belongs, at the very top, for everyone in Maranello, and above all for the Tifosi, whose passion is the heartbeat of this Scuderia.”

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur added: “Charles has been part of the Ferrari family for many years now and this renewal feels like something very natural for us.

“Over these seasons, we have seen him grow to become not only one of the strongest drivers in Formula 1, but also a person who is completely at one with the team and everything Scuderia Ferrari HP represents.

“We appreciate his talent, we love his determination and the way he approaches every day with the people in the Scuderia, both on and off the track. As Charles Leclerc signs new multi-year Ferrari contract extension, we know how much this project means to him and we are happy to continue working towards our shared goals.”

Leclerc’s decision to extend came despite Ferrari’s challenging start under Formula 1’s new 2026 regulations, and he had previously hinted that the team’s performance under the new rules would be decisive in determining his future.

At the end of last season, the Monegasque driver famously stated it was “now or never” for Ferrari to demonstrate their championship credentials, yet he remains committed to the dream of winning a world championship with the team he has loved since childhood.

His loyalty is particularly remarkable given that Ferrari last won a drivers’ title in 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen and their last constructors’ title came in 2008, meaning the team has gone nearly two decades without a championship victory.

Leclerc currently holds third-place in the drivers’ standings heading to his home grand prix where he last took victory in 2024.
