Austrian Grand Prix to remain on F1 calendar up to 2027

The Austrian Grand Prix will continue to appear on the F1 schedule at least through 2027 following a contract renewal.

Formula 1 will continue to have races at the Red Bull Ring for a number of more years after the sport announced that the Austrian Grand Prix’s contract will be extended until at least 2027.

The announcement that was released on Thursday included a four-year contract renewal for Formula 1 to come to Austria.

F1 made a comeback to the Red Bull Ring in 2014 after dropping off the schedule at the conclusion of the 2003 season and since then, the circuit has been the site of some fantastic track action. It has been back on the calendar permanently since 2014 and it hosted two races each in the COVID-19 affected 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The event featured one of the three F1 Sprints last year, and due to its success, the alternate format will be used again this year.

It’s a well-liked place for fans to attend as well, with unwavering support for Red Bull and Max Verstappen in particular. A grandstand at the circuit has been erected in his honor, and thousands of fans show up each year wearing orange gear.

“The Austrian Grand Prix brings together the perfect mix of a challenging track, high-speed racing, and a beautiful venue for our fans,” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said. “So I am delighted that we will be coming back to the Red Bull Ring until at least 2027 under this new agreement.”

“As we celebrate the 10th year since our return to Spielberg, I would like to thank everyone involved in this renewal, especially the promoter and Red Bull.”

“I want to pay tribute to Dietrich Mateschitz for the love, passion, and vision he brought to Formula 1 that has ensured the continued success of the event and the huge enthusiasm for our sport in Austria and around the world.”

General manager of circuit promoter Projekt Spielberg GmbH & Co KG Erich Wolf added: “We are proud of the special partnership we have with Formula 1, and we are absolutely delighted to be welcoming the top class of motorsport to the Red Bull Ring for a further four years.”

“In signing this contract extension, Formula 1 has made a strong commitment to Austria, Styria and the Murtal region.

“As we enter the tenth year of our partnership with Formula 1, we want to celebrate this milestone with all the great fans of the sport and to thank them for their loyalty and the tremendous atmosphere they help to generate.”

“Everyone is invited to experience another great race weekend at Spielberg in 2023.”

A sell-out 303,000 fans are expected to attend this season’s edition of the Austrian Grand Prix in early July.
