Aston Martin announces 2022 F1 car launch date

Aston Martin has been the first Formula One team to reveal a launch date for their 2022 Formula 1 car, the AMR22.

On Friday morning, the team announced that its newest car will be exhibited at the road car manufacturer’s headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire on Thursday 10 February. Online streaming will also be available for fans to watch the launch.

Aston Martin is the first of the ten teams to announce a launch date for their 2022 vehicle. This comes as Mercedes teased the W13 earlier this month, while McLaren posted glimpses of its new car on social media. On Wednesday, AlphaTauri announced that their 2022 chassis had passed FIA crash safety testing.

In 2022, Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel will race for Aston Martin once more. With 77 points and one podium result, the team – rebranded as Racing Point for the 2021 season and finished seventh in the constructors’ championship.

Following the resignation of CEO Otmar Szafnauer from the team, Aston Martin is currently without a team principal.

The 2022 season will see a major change of technical regulations aimed at improving Formula 1 racing by minimizing the filthy air effect and making vehicles simpler to follow competitors. The rules were supposed to go into effect last season, but they were postponed for a year due to concerns about the effects of the Covid epidemic on the championship.

With 23 events scheduled, this season will be the longest in the sport’s history. The 2022 Formula One pre-season test will kick off on February 23 with a three-day test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. The season begins on March 18 with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
