Marco Bezzecchi dominated the timesheets in incident-filled second Mandalika MotoGP practice as Ducati continued to struggle with Marc Marquez missing out on Q2 for the first time this year alongside Francesco Bagnaia.
Friday afternoon’s practice for the 2025 Indonesian MotoGP proved to be a dramatic and intense afternoon, marked by high speed, impressive lap times, and a series of crashes that significantly impacted rider positions and the overall dynamic heading into qualifying.
From the start, the practice session unfolded with high stakes as all 23 MotoGP riders took to the demanding circuit under generally hot and humid conditions typical of the Mandalika region.
Marco Bezzecchi emerged as the standout rider, showcasing consistent pace and control despite the tricky track surface. He was the first to break into the 1:29 lap times, eventually setting a best of 1:29.240 that remained unbeaten for the remainder of the session.
This time put him significantly ahead of the competition with Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer and KTM’s Pedro Acosta trailing by more than four tenths of a second.
Honda enjoyed a solid run with Luca Marini and Joan Mir taking fourth and sixth, respectively, split by Raul Fernandez on the Trackhouse Aprilia.
The Monster Yamaha duo also put forth a strong performance with Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins finishing seventh and eighth respectively, their consistent times placing Yamaha well within the top ten.

However, the second Mandalika MotoGP practice was compounded by a series of crashes involving prominent riders including newly crowned 2025 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez who endured a particularly challenging afternoon.
Marquez suffered two crashes during the session—first, a relatively gentle spill at Turn 10 just ten minutes into the session but he was able to recover quickly, salvage his bike, and continue riding without immediate pit intervention.
This was followed by a more severe crash at Turn 5 where the Spanish rider lost rear traction, leading to a hard impact on his right shoulder and potentially his head.
These crashes severely affected his session timing and confidence, relegating him to an 11th place finish forcing him to start from Q1 for the first time in the 2025 MotoGP season.
Joining Marquez in Q1 was his Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia who also faced a disappointing session. He ended up 17th fastest, unable to find the pace or setup needed to comfortably secure a top 10 spot.
Bagnaia’s performance contrasted sharply with expectations following the progress shown in Japan last weekend, suggesting that the Mandalika circuit’s layout and conditions do not currently favor his style or bike setup.
Meanwhile, Honda LCR’s Johann Zarco also suffered two separate crashes; the first one unfolded in the opening minutes, while the second crash happened at Turn 8 as the session approached its climax unsettling his rhythm.
Enea Bastianini crashed in Sector 1 just after Zarco’s fall, which brought out yellow flags and momentarily disrupted the rhythm of other riders on track.
Alex Marquez was the last rider to suffer a huge crash late in the session after losing the front end of his Gresini Ducati GP24 at Turn 12 with just two minutes remaining.
Despite the high-speed nature of the crash and substantial damage to his bike, Alex managed to conclude the session with a time that allowed him to sneak into 10th place, just making the cutoff for automatic progression into Q2.
