Honda’s Luca Marini emerged as the fastest rider in Indonesian MotoGP FP1 ahead of Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi as Ducati barely made it into the top five.
The 45-minute Free Practice 1 held at the Mandalika International Street Circuit saw lively on-track battles and some remarkable individual performances, setting the tone for the rest of the race weekend.
In challenging hot and humid conditions typical of the Indonesian climate, the riders took to the track eager to lay down strong times and gain early insight into their race pace and bike setups.
Luca Marini ultimately delivered a noteworthy lap time of 1:30.809 on a new set of medium compound tyres front and rear, during the closing stages of the session.
His late flying lap secured his position at the top of the timesheets, narrowly ahead of Spanish riders Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi.
Acosta, riding for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, showed strong form throughout the session and ended up second fastest despite a few challenging moments on track, including a significant save at Turn 15 and rear slides at Turns 11 and 10.
Bezzecchi, representing Aprilia Factory, was a dominant force for much of the session and claimed third place, maintaining consistent fast lap times on his hard front and medium rear tyre combination.
The FP1 session was highly competitive, with all five manufacturers represented in the top positions, highlighting the parity at the front of the MotoGP grid this season.

Alex Rins of Monster Energy Yamaha impressed by finishing fourth, enjoying one of his best Friday mornings of the season with a smooth and confident performance.
Newly crowned 2025 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez marked the fastest Ducati in fifth despite a couple of on-track incidents, including a trip through the gravel at Turn 1 during his final exit to the track.
Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller secured sixth fastest lap, closely followed by his stablemate Fabio Quartararo in seventh. Quartararo was just over half a second behind Marini’s leading time, indicating Yamaha’s solid pace in FP1.
Fabio Di Giannantonio came in eighth for VR46 Racing, followed by Joan Mir who recently celebrated a maiden podium on Honda machinery in Japan.
Completing the top ten was Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing Ducati, adding another Ducati to the leading group.
Other notable performances in Indonesian MotoGP FP1 included Raul Fernandez who slotted his Trackhouse Aprilia in 11th followed by Franco Morbidelli in 12th.
Johann Zarco, Brad Binder, Maverick Viñales, Fermin Aldeguer, and Francesco Bagnaia—who faced a tough session from 17th—rounded out the rest of the midfield group.
Bagnaia struggled with form after a strong campaign in Japan, and along with Marquez, faced the challenge of working through Q1 qualifying due to their FP1 and FP2 times.
Aldeguer suffered a significant crash at Turn 8 but fortunately escaped with minimal injury. Several riders experienced minor offs, highlighting the technical demands of the track.
Tech3’s Enea Bastianini finished in 18th, with Miguel Oliveira and Somkiat Chantra rounding out the grid.
