Charles Leclerc led Ferrari 1-2 in the opening practice session for the 2026 Formula 1 season, setting the benchmark at 1m20.267s ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton by 0.469 seconds.
Max Verstappen was third fastest, just 0.522s adrift, after trading blows with Leclerc in the latter half as Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar impressed in fourth despite a lock-up at Turn 10.
Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top five, while home favorite Oscar Piastri mustered sixth after McLaren encountered reliability gremlins which left teammate Lando Norris sidelined in the garage, the reigning champion finishing a distant 19th.
Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli occupied seventh and eighth, respectively, as Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto and veteran Nico Hulkenberg completed the top ten.
