Lando Norris topped the timesheets on the opening day of official Formula 1 pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit with a blistering lap time of 1:34.669, edging out Max Verstappen by just 0.129s.
Ferrari mounted a credible challenge with Charles Leclerc slotting into P3 overall despite a minor afternoon oversteer moment at Turn 9 that pinched his left-front tire.
Haas surprised with Esteban Ocon vaulting to P4 after an impressive 115 laps, while Oscar Piastri’s morning run in the McLaren MCL40 yielded fifth, 0.933s adrift his teammate Norris.
Mercedes endured a more subdued outing with George Russell’s 56 laps in the morning only good enough for P6, while teammate Kimi Antonelli languished in 11th after limited running.
Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon, Arvid Lindblad and Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top ten.
