Toprak Razgatlioglu etched his name into the annals of world superbike history with a commanding victory in UK WorldSBK Race 1 while home favorite Alex Lowes crashed out.
The Turkish rider claimed his tenth win at Donington Park to break Tom Sykes’ record and tightened the championship battle after a dramatic race that saw several unexpected twists.
As the lights went out, pole sitter Toprak Razgatlioglu held his position off the line but the drama began almost immediately at Turn 1.
A three-way crash involving Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team), Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team), and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) sent all three riders tumbling into the gravel, their races over before they had truly begun.
While the incident eliminated several key contenders, the rest of the field was forced to navigate the aftermath with debris and shaken nerves adding to the challenge of the opening lap.
Amid the early turmoil, British favorite Alex Lowes surged past Razgatlioglu to claim the lead, igniting the home crowd and promising a thrilling contest at the front. He quickly built a gap of over a second by the end of Lap 2 poised to challenge for a memorable home victory.
However, the unpredictability of Donington Park struck on Lap 3 as Lowes lost control at the high-speed Craner Curves and crashed out from P1. The incident was a crushing blow for the British rider and his supporters, abruptly ending his hopes for UK WorldSBK Race 1 win.
With Lowes out of contention, Razgatlioglu inherited the lead and immediately set about consolidating his advantage. The reigning WorldSBK champion displayed the composure and pace that have become his trademarks, steadily increasing his margin over the chasing pack.
By the halfway point of the race, Razgatlioglu had carved out a lead of more than five seconds riding with a blend of aggression and precision that left his rivals unable to respond.
Behind him, the battle for the remaining podium positions unfolded with its own share of intrigue. Nicolo Bulega, despite not making the ideal start, managed to avoid the chaos at Turn 1 and settled into a rhythm that allowed him to pull clear of the immediate danger.
The Italian rider was unable to match Razgatlioglu’s relentless pace and ultimately crossed the line 6.535 seconds adrift of the winner, his points advantage in the championship reduced to a slender four points as the title fight intensified.

Meanwhile, Danilo Petrucci delivered another impressive performance to claim his eighth podium of the season. The seasoned Italian rider navigated the opening lap incident with composure and settled into third place, riding largely unchallenged for the remainder of the race.
The battle for fourth place was among the highlights of the afternoon, featuring a spirited four-way battle involving Andrea Locatelli and Jonathan Rea (both Pata Maxus Yamaha), Scott Redding (MGM BONOVO Racing), and Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team).
Locatelli ultimately emerged on top matching his best result at Donington Park while Rea delivered his strongest performance of the year after finishing fifth.
Redding’s ride to sixth place was one of the standout stories of the race. After qualifying in a disappointing 17th position, Redding produced a determined charge through the field, at one point holding off a trio of Yamahas before eventually yielding to Rea.
Dominique Aegerter and Garrett Gerloff claimed their best result of the season in seventh and eighth respectively while Remy Gardner and Andrea Iannone completed the top ten.
Xavi Vierge was the top Honda finisher in 11th place, having made significant progress from his nineteenth-place starting position. Ryan Vickers marked the highest-placed British rider in 12th while Michael van der Mark and Michael Ruben Rinaldi rounded out the points-paying positions in 13th and 14th, respectively.
