Trackhouse Racing has confirmed Shane van Gisbergen NASCAR contract extension after penning a new multi-year deal that will see the New Zealand racing talent remain in the NASCAR Cup Series for the foreseeable future.
The announcement came as no surprise to racing enthusiasts who have closely followed van Gisbergen’s meteoric rise in the sport since his debut in 2023.
Shane Van Gisbergen’s journey to NASCAR prominence is extraordinary in many respects. Originally a three-time Supercars champion in Australia, he made an audacious leap to NASCAR through Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 program which aims to bring international racing stars into the premier series.
Van Gisbergen’s debut was nothing short of historic as he proceeded to win the inaugural Chicago Street Race in July 2023, becoming the first driver since Johnny Rutherford in 1963 to win a Cup Series race in his debut.
Following his debut, van Gisbergen entered into a development agreement with Trackhouse Racing in 2024 to feature in 12 Cup Series races, alongside a full-time commitment in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing.
The 36-year old’s remarkable performance impressed team owner Justin Marks, landing him a full-time seat in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series as driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet.
Van Gisbergen’s rookie Cup Series season has been spectacular with three victories so far; at Viva Mexico 250, the Grant Park 165 Chicago Street Race, and the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma, all securing him the fourth seed in the NASCAR playoffs with three races still remaining in the regular season.

He is also on the verge of tying the record held by NASCAR legends Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon for the most consecutive Cup wins on road or street courses, having won three in a row with a bid for a fourth win upcoming at Watkins Glen.
Van Gisbergen has quickly become the most successful foreign-born driver in NASCAR history, achieving an unprecedented level of success in less than 40 career Cup starts.
“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” van Gisbergen said. “Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023.
“That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin [Marks] took on me.
“The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn’t be happier.”
Trackhouse Racing founder and owner Justin Marks expressed admiration for van Gisbergen’s achievements, highlighting the challenges he has overcome.
“We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing,” Marks said. “What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty.
“He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing, and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
While Ross Chastain remains signed with the team, Shane van Gisbergen NASCAR contract extension ensures that at least two of Trackhouse’s top cars will be piloted by proven, high-performing drivers for the upcoming seasons.
However, there will be changes as Daniel Suarez departs the No. 99 Chevrolet seat after the 2025 season, with Xfinity Series star Connor Zilisch being a strong contender to take over that position.
