The revised BMW M Hybrid V8 has been revealed featuring extensive aerodynamic updates including a smaller kidney grille set to debut in 2026 FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship seasons.
The 2026 iteration of the M Hybrid V8 features a comprehensive aerodynamic redesign focused on improving the car’s performance consistency across diverse circuits, while improving cooling efficiency through advanced airflow management.
The updated model will make its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2026, marking the next evolution in BMW’s ambitious sports prototype racing program.
Since its debut in 2023 in the IMSA series and 2024 in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the BMW M Hybrid V8 has demonstrated competitive pace and resilience, securing multiple podium finishes and race victories notably in American sportscar events.
Drawing on extensive race data and engineering insights gathered over two seasons, BMW M Motorsport engineers partnered with chassis supplier Dallara to develop aerodynamic updates aimed at addressing weaknesses seen in specific track conditions.
The collaboration culminated in a refined front-end design highlighted by a noticeably smaller version of BMW’s iconic kidney grille – a hallmark of BMW’s brand identity – while retaining the distinctive “BMW Iconic Glow” contour lighting that ensures the car maintains its unmistakable presence especially in night racing conditions.
One of the most striking visual changes is the redesigned front splitter which has been carefully optimized to enhance airflow both around and beneath the car.
The updated splitters and air management systems are engineered to deliver consistent downforce and minimize drag, helping to keep lap times competitive regardless of the track’s unique characteristics.
In addition to the aerodynamic refinements, the updated BMW M Hybrid V8 comes equipped with new headlights which complement the car’s modernized front fascia.
The new lighting units are expected to improve visibility during night stints in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona, where visibility and driver confidence are paramount.
The car will initially be seen in public during a joint test session at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, scheduled shortly after World Endurance Championship’s Lone Star Le Mans in early September 2025.

This test will allow the team to validate the new aerodynamic package under real-world conditions before the competitive season kicks off.
“Since we began racing in the IMSA series in 2023 and the FIA WEC in 2024, we have learned a great deal about our BMW M Hybrid V8,” BMW Motorsport director Andreas Roos said after the reveal.
“After optimizing the brakes for the current season, it is now time for an aerodynamically improved version of the car. With these updates, we are responding to the insights gained from our previous race outings.
“Following the tests we’ve already conducted, we are confident that the changes to the BMW M Hybrid V8 will allow us to compete more consistently at the front on all types of tracks, taking another step toward the top.
“A big thank you to everyone involved for their hard work. In the coming months, we will continue to work intensively to ensure we are optimally prepared for the start of the 2026 season at Daytona in January.”
BMW’s updated Hybrid prototype is poised to be a serious contender in both the 2026 FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
The revised BMW M Hybrid V8 remains based on the Dallara-built chassis, maintaining the structural and mechanical excellence that has been a key factor in the car’s initial success.
The powertrain consists of a twin-turbocharged V8 engine combined with standard hybrid technology supplied by specialist partners including Williams Advanced Engineering, Bosch, and Xtrac.
