Championship leader Marc Marquez capped off opening day at the 2025 San Marino Grand Prix with a with a new lap record – Full Misano MotoGP Practice Results, Friday.
Friday afternoon’s practice unfolded under sunny and favorable conditions, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive battle among all 23 riders.
The session was critical as the top 10 fastest riders would earn direct access to Q2, therefore, tyre strategy played a crucial role with most opting for a medium front and rear setup to simulate race conditions and assess pace over longer runs.
In contrast, Marco Bezzecchi distinguished himself by experimenting with a qualifying-focused setup using a medium front and soft rear tyre combination which briefly placed him at the top of the timesheets.
However, the lead quickly changed hands as Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta pushed aggressively fighting for supremacy.
Marquez demonstrated his trademark precision and speed, ultimately posting the fastest lap time of 1:30.480s – a new lap record for the Misano circuit in practice conditions.
The six-time premier world champion finished just 0.147 seconds ahead of Bezzecchi whose best lap was deleted before initially tumbling down to 13th place. However, the Aprilia rider followed up the set back with a series of competitive lap times settling in second.
Franco Morbidelli who had demonstrated strong pace in the morning session, surged to claim third, while Marquez’s Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia made a significant mark by briefly topping the timesheets before settling into fourth place.
The session showcased the strength of the Ducati team overall, with last weekend’s Catalunya winner Alex Marquez securing the fifth fastest time for Gresini.Honda’s Joan Mir and Luca Marini, Aprilia’s Jorge Martin, KTM’s Pedro Acosta and VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio completed the top ten places.
Other notable performances included Honda’s Joan Mir and Luca Marini who completed the top ten, alongside Aprilia’s Jorge Martin, KTM’s Pedro Acosta, and VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio.
A strategic moment unfolded towards the end of the session when Bezzecchi appeared to deliberately tow teammate Jorge Martin to aid the reigning world champion in securing a direct spot in Q2, following qualifying struggles throughout the season.
The practice was not without incidents. Augusto Fernandez crashed the new Yamaha V4 towards the end of the session; Joan Mir tumbled at Turn 9 with just two minutes left along with Raul Fernandez.
