Marco Bezzecchi pipped Alex Marquez by a mere 0.088s to claim his second pole position of the season.
Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo put in a valiant fight for pole after his Q1 domination but missed out by just a fraction of a second, ultimately setting the third-fastest lap.
Marc Marquez secured fourth on the grid, proving his championship leader status with a lap that saw him tow his brother Alex for much of his best lap.
Franco Morbidelli continued his strong form and consistency throughout the weekend by claiming fifth for VR46 Ducati, while Luca Marini followed in sixth after running as the sole Honda rider in Q2.
The battle for the remaining positions in the top ten was extremely close with Fabio Di Giannantonio taking seventh on the sister VR46 Ducati, ahead of Pecco Bagnaia on the factory Ducati.
