Marco Bezzecchi wins Misano MotoGP Sprint as Marc Marquez crashes on Lap 6

Marco Bezzecchi took a surprise Misano MotoGP Sprint victory after Marc Marquez crashed out of the lead, effectively ending his remarkable Saturday winning streak.

The 2025 San Marino Grand Prix Sprint was a thrilling and dramatic encounter that unfolded over 13 intense laps, providing a captivating spectacle for the 23 riders on the grid and the passionate home crowd.

From the very start of the race, home favorite Marco Bezzecchi capitalized on his pole position, executing a perfect holeshot to lead the pack through the first corners.

Behind him, Marc Marquez made a strong start and deftly moved up from fourth on the grid to second by the end of the opening lap, clearly motivated to challenge Bezzecchi.

Meanwhile, the rest of the top ten jostled closely with Alex Marquez, Fabio di Giannantonio, and Franco Morbidelli positioning themselves strategically in the early laps to stay within striking distance.

Laps two to five saw an intense battle emerge at the front between Bezzecchi and Marquez. The Aprilia rider maintained a small but consistent lead as Marquez exerted constant pressure to bridge the gap.

On lap four, Bezzecchi managed to extend a slight gap suggesting he could control the race pace, but Marquez quickly responded on lap five, swallowing up the deficit with determined riding.

The fight for supremacy was highlighted by several near overtakes and defensive lines that thrilled spectators, as Marquez exhibited his trademark aggressive style, intent on breaking Bezzecchi’s grip on the lead.

The defining moment came on lap six, triggered by a minor but costly mistake by Bezzecchi at Turn 4 which allowed Marquez to close in rapidly.

Seizing the opportunity, the Spaniard executed a precise move at turn six to overtake the Italian and take the lead for the first time in the Sprint.

Bezzecchi attempted an immediate counterattack at Turn 8 but was unable to find sufficient pace or clear space to reclaim the lead.

The battle appeared to be tilting in Marquez’s favor to continue his Sprint dominance this season, however, fate had other plans.

On lap six, just nine corners after taking command, Marquez pushed his Ducati aggressively and lost control at Turn 15, crashing into the barriers.
