Lando Norris held off Kimi Antonelli to claim F1 Brazil GP Sprint victory as Oscar Piastri crashed out of the race headlined by multiple red flags.
The Sprint Race held at Interlagos unfolded as an intense and dramatic event that saw the Formula 1 championship leader extend his lead atop the drivers’ standings with a composed yet thrilling victory.
Starting from pole position, Lando Norris launched impeccably as the lights went out, leading the field cleanly ahead of Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who was in a strong third place.
However, the race contested on a partly damp Interlagos circuit due to earlier showers quickly revealed its challenging nature as several drivers grappled with the tricky grip conditions, which played a decisive role in the unfolding drama.
At the beginning, most of the 20 drivers chose medium tyres to manage the shifting track conditions, but a select few including Antonelli, George Russell, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Isack Hadjar, and Alexander Albon took a risk with softer compounds aimed at gaining an advantage in pace.
Norris managed his medium tyres well and held a calm and firm grip on the race lead through the first couple of laps.
However, the situation deteriorated dramatically when Oscar Piastri, chasing Antonelli for second place, attempted to push the limits on Turn 3’s damp kerbs.
On lap 6, while running third, Piastri’s rear tyres spun out exiting Turn 2 causing him to lose control and crash into the barrier at Turn 3, instantly ending his Sprint race.
Moments after Oscar Piastri crash, Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto also tumbled at the same corner under similar conditions, reflecting the treacherous nature of the track surface at that critical section.
The trio of accidents forced race officials to red-flag the Sprint, halting action to clear the damaged cars and debris which gave the teams and drivers a brief reprieve.
Once the track was cleared and the race resumed, Norris once again held the lead firmly, demonstrating his skill in managing the challenging conditions and pressure.

Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli showed maturity beyond his rookie season by keeping pace and relentlessly applying pressure on Norris as the Sprint progressed.
Behind them, Max Verstappen exhibited his trademark racing prowess, though dealing with the aftermath of a challenging start and mechanical issues, positioning himself for an impressive recovery drive.
As the race continued, tension mounted as Norris struggled to maintain his rear softs which became increasingly degraded, allowing Antonelli to close the gap significantly.
Meanwhile, the middle and back of the pack saw a fierce battle for positions with all 20 drivers fighting to extract the maximum from their cars while navigating the tricky track conditions.
Further drama unfolded on the last lap as home favorite Gabriel Bortoleto overshot Turn 1 and his Sauber went airborne resulting to a heavy crash into the barriers.
Thankfully, Bortoleto escaped without injury but the incident brought out double yellow flags and effectively ended the race under caution, preventing any further battles for position in the closing moments.
Norris crossed the finish line first to take F1 Brazil GP Sprint victory, narrowly beating Antonelli by 0.845 seconds.
The victory marked Norris’ second Sprint win of the season and further cemented his championship credentials, extending his lead in the drivers’ standings by eight points.
Antonelli’s second place was a career-best result and a strong highlight in his rookie campaign as Mercedes teammate George Russell rounded out the podium.
Meanwhile, Verstappen’s recovery drive earned him fourth ahead of Charles Leclerc who put in a late charge, overtaking Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso to clinch fifth place.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton followed in seventh, while Alpine’s Pierre Gasly managed a gritty eighth-place finish to claim the final sprint points.
