Marc Marquez stormed to his 100th career victory at the 2026 Hungarian MotoGP after beating Pedro Acosta as Aprilia duo Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi collided on the first-lap eliminating multiple riders.
Marquez crossed the line 1.3 seconds ahead of KTM’s Acosta to mark his first win of the 2026 season and his 74th in the premier class, joining an elite group of riders as only the third competitor in history to reach the century mark of victories across all categories behind Valentino Rossi’s 115 wins and Giacomo Agostini’s 122 triumphs.
Sunday’s race at Balaton Park began with Marquez on pole and Acosta beside him on the front row, both riders ready to battle for what would become a historic victory.
As the lights went out, Marquez grabbed the holeshot once again despite getting wheelspin when he dropped the clutch, heading Acosta and Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia into Turn 1, while chaos unfolded behind them as the race’s defining moment erupted.
Jorge Martin, starting eighth on the grid in his factory Aprilia, got out of shape under braking at the extremely tricky Turn 1 where the freshly resurfaced asphalt had zero grip and suffered a dramatic low-side incident that triggered a massive crash involving multiple riders.
Aprilia teammate and championship frontrunner Marco Bezzecchi was the first victim struck by the Spaniard, before also taking out Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer, Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez and VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio.

With the dominant Aprilias crashing out of contention, the focus shifted to the battle at the front between Marquez and Acosta, as the KTM rider took the lead into Turn 5 on the second lap.
Acosta used the grip advantage on the soft tyre to pull 0.6 seconds clear of Marquez at the start of lap three before extending that advantage to 1.6 seconds at the start of the sixth tour.
However, this was when Marquez began his patient and calculated charge forward, clawing into Acosta’s lead as the pair traded fastest laps in a compelling battle that went down as the main feature in Hungary MotoGP highlights.
By half-distance, Marquez was just 0.4 seconds behind Acosta, setting the stage for an intense late-race duel as the two riders pushed their machines to the limit around the picturesque Balaton Park circuit.

The pair even touched at Turn 16 moments later, adding extra drama to their battle, but Marquez remained undeterred and made his second definitive attempt into Turn 9 on lap 15, running the KTM rider wide enough to stop him from counterattacking and finally securing the lead for good.
