Young Mercedes sensation Kimi Antonelli stormed to his second consecutive Formula 1 pole position at Suzuka as Mercedes toppled the competition with yet another dominant 1-2.

Antonelli delivered a lap time of 1:28.778, beating Mercedes teammate George Russell by 0.298 seconds, while Oscar Piastri vaulted to third for McLaren just 0.354s off pole.

Charles Leclerc was the leading Ferrari in fourth, 0.627s back, as Lando Norris slotted the second MCL40 marginally behind in fifth edging out Lewis Hamilton by just a hundredth of a second.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly punched to a standout seventh, followed by Isack Hadjar who salvaged a disastrous weekend for Red Bull after teammate Max Verstappen suffered a shock Q2 elimination.

Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Racing Bulls’ Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top ten.
