Carlos Sainz confirms Ferrari exit

Carlos Sainz Jr. confirmed that the upcoming season would be his final driving for Ferrari.

Carlos Sainz made the announcement that the 2024 season will be his final with Scuderia Ferrari on a day marked by important developments in the Formula 1 paddock.

Sainz’s decision was largely influenced by Lewis Hamilton’s anticipated move to Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season.

Sainz’s contract with Ferrari runs until the end of the 2024 campaign; therefore, regardless of whether both parties were in contract negotiations to extend it, once a deal was signed by Hamilton, Sainz’s time at Maranello was essentially over.

Sainz promised Ferrari that he will give them his best for his final season with the team in a statement posted on social media.

“Following today’s news, Scuderia Ferrari and myself will part ways at the end of 2024,” he said. “We still have a long season ahead of us and, like always, I will give my absolute best of the team and for the TIfosi around the world.

“News about my future will be announced in due course.”

After joining Ferrari in 2021, the Spaniard has consistently demonstrated his capacity to perform at the top level of motorsport. He ended up winning the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, a race that will go down in history.

Having switched from McLaren, the 29-year-old overpowered Leclerc in the championship during their first season together. The following year Sainz won his first grand prix and earned his first career pole position at the British Grand Prix.

Sainz ended Red Bull’s historic win run in Singapore last season by becoming the only driver not affiliated with Red Bull to win a grand prix.
