Alpine announces date for 2022 F1 car launch

Alpine F1 Team has become the fifth team to reveal the date on which their 2022 Formula 1 car will be unveiled for the 2022 F1 season.

The French squad announced on Twitter on Wednesday that their 2022 challenger, which will be called A522, will take place on February 21, two days before the first preseason testing session in Barcelona, Spain.

The news comes as Alpine has been in the spotlight after a management reshuffle resulted in its executive director, Marcin Budkowski leaving, followed by the departure of non-executive director Alain Prost.

Prost’s departure was tumultuous to say the least, with the Frenchman accusing the team’s CEO Laurent Rossi of driving him and others out.

After the exits of Prost and Budkowski, no replacements have been declared, however, rumors have surfaced tying Aston Martin’s former team principal Otmar Szafnauer to a future role at the Enston-based company.

Alpine will once again field the same driver lineup for the 2022 season, which includes two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso and the young French driver Esteban Ocon, who delivered the team’s first win at the 2021 Hungarian GP.

Alpine placed fifth in the Constructors Standings last season, and will be expecting, like other teams, to make a leap ahead in 2022 under new Formula 1 regulations.
