AlphaTauri introduces their 2022 F1 car, the AT03

Scuderia AlphaTauri has become the latest team to reveal their 2022 F1 car, the AT03, which will make its first official appearance at next week’s Barcelona test.

AlphaTauri has opened a busy week of Formula One announcements by revealing new renderings of its 2022 contender, the Honda-powered AT03.

The Faenza team debuted their AT03 on Monday morning in an online launch from the team’s headquarters. The new car has a similar color scheme to its predecessors, consisting of a mix of white and blue.

The video, which lasted less than three minutes, featured a digital version of the AT03 running past the team drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda and also a series of models wearing AlphaTauri branded attire.

As opposed to Red Bull, which displayed a repainted show car, AlphaTauri revealed the direction it is going in with rectangular air intakes inside the side-pods and rippled engine covers. However, some aspects, such as the floor, look to be lacking in detail.

“I am excited to finally reveal what our 2022 Formula 1 car will look like,” said AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost.

“It is a completely new era for F1 and we hope that this package will be very strong, following last year’s success.”

“Once again, we have worked closely with AlphaTauri to launch our new car and I think we’ve managed to deliver something very special.”

Commenting on the launch of the new car, Gasly said: “This year sees a huge change to the car as, due to the new regulations, the look and design is completely different.”

“So the team has had to start from a clean sheet of paper… we won’t know the true performance of the AT03 until we get it out on track at pre-season testing in Barcelona but so far, I think it looks great and I am very excited to get this new season started!”

Yuki Tsunoda, who will be on his second season with the team said:“It really does look great.”

“Of course we’ve not seen the real car on track yet, but the new shape and design are really cool, and I think the livery suits it really well and I hope everyone enjoys the launch video.”

Back in January, AlphaTauri provided their drivers the opportunity to test their 2020 car, the AT01, over three days in Imola to shake off the rust from the winter off-season.

The team placed sixth in the Constructors’ Standings in 2021 with 142 points, as Gasly scored a third-place finish in Baku with Tsunoda’s best performance being finishing fourth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
