This season’s first three races have seen Fernando Alonso finish third in every one of them, which is his best start since 2006.
At Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso maintained his stellar start to the 2023 Formula One season, continuing his string of podium finishes at every race so far this season.
The two-time world champion was promoted to P3 following contact with Carlos Sainz, and as a result he placed third for the third time straight at the Albert Park Circuit. Alonso had been running in third for the entirety of the race until Sainz struck him after the second race restart on the penultimate lap.
The Aston Martin driver dropped to P12 as a result, but was later promoted to P3 after the FIA reset the grid to its original position at the start of the restart because a third red flag had been flown just seconds before Alonso was spun around.
It meant that Aston Martin’s spectacular start to 2023 kept going, as the Silverstone-based outfit was able to hold onto second place in the constructors’ Championship. In the Drivers’ Championship, Alonso’s third consecutive podium helped him hold onto third place.
While Alonso’s performance on the track was flawless, his personal life was a different thing altogether.
The double World Champion broke up with his longtime girlfriend Andrea Schlager shortly after celebrating his podium with his crew, writing about it on social media.
The statement was made shortly after the podium celebrations, and both the F1 driver and the sports reporter had the same statement to make. Despite the fact that very little is known about the couple’s relationship, many fans have already expressed their sentiments towards them.
“We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple ended,” Alonso and Schlager posted on social media. “We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but on a different form of affection.”
“As you have probably seen, we have continued working on and off track on various projects together also during this time, and we will keep doing so with deep love and respect for each other.
“We thought it is appropriate to share this as you have all been very supportive. Thanks for that. Love Fer & Andrea.”
