Alex Palou held off Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon in a late caution restart to claim IndyCar Iowa Race 2 victory, cementing his championship lead with a seventh win of the season.
The IndyCar Farm To Fresh 275 at Iowa Speedway was the second leg of a doubleheader weekend and featured a field hungry for points in the championship chase.
From the moment engines fired, the race was poised for unpredictability. The starting grid was determined by each driver’s second flying lap from Saturday’s qualifying with Palou securing pole position after a masterful performance.
The anticipation was palpable as the field rolled off, and the opening lap set the tone for what would become a race of attrition and tactical brilliance.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Devlin DeFrancesco spun entering Turn 4 and collected Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in a crash that saw both cars suffer significant damage, forcing the two to retire from the race.
As the IndyCar Farm To Fresh 275 settled into its early rhythm, Alex Palou demonstrated the pace that has characterized his season but Josef Newgarden, a perennial favorite at Iowa, overtook the championship leader twice during the race.
Newgarden’s aggressive but calculated moves propelled him to the front and he appeared to be the man to beat alongside David Malukas who also showed formidable speed, running consistently in the top spots.
However, the middle stages of the race were defined by a series of caution periods that would ultimately shape the outcome.
The first major turning point came around lap 130, when Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson suffered a right-front tire failure, bringing out a caution just after Newgarden had pitted.
This sequence trapped Newgarden a lap down, forcing him to take the wavearound and fight his way back through the field. The resilience of the Team Penske driver was on full display as he clawed his way from 13th back into contention, passing Palou with 35 laps remaining and dragging Malukas with him into the battle for the lead.
The relentless pace at the front was matched by the strategic chess match unfolding on pit road as Honda’s superior fuel mileage allowed Palou to stay out longer than his Chevrolet-powered rivals, a factor that would prove decisive as the race entered its closing stages.
The tension escalated as another caution flew with just 22 laps to go, this time for Colton Herta’s contact with the wall and once again the timing was disastrous for Newgarden and Malukas, who had just completed their pit stops under green.
In contrast, Palou was able to pit under yellow and stepped out on fresh tires to take the race lead, perfectly positioned for the final sprint to the checkered flag.
The restart with 11 laps remaining saw Palou lead the field with his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon and Meyer Shank’s Marcus Armstrong in pursuit.
Dixon waged a battle for the top spot but was unable to overhaul Palou who proceeded to take the chquered flag as the IndyCar Iowa Race 2 winner while Armstrong completed an all-Honda podium.
Behind the leading trio, David Malukas was undeterred by the misfortune of the final caution and mounted a late charge from eighth to finish fourth, ahead of Saturday’s IndyCar Synk 275 winner Pato O’Ward.

Christian Lundgaard, Felix Rosenqvist, Christian Rasmussen, Robert Shwartzman and Josef Newgarden rounded out the top ten.
The attrition rate at Iowa Speedway was high with several notable incidents impacting the final classification. Beyond the opening-lap crash, Sting Ray Robb brought out a caution around lap 50 after making contact with the wall, while Callum Ilott’s late-race incident further thinned the field.
Will Power was forced to retire early due to engine issues, while Andretti duo Marcus Ericsson and Colton Herta suffered race-ending contact, leaving Kyle Kirkwood as the team’s sole finisher albeit outside the points.
