Max Verstappen converted his pole position to a commanding victory in Formula 1‘s United States Grand Prix Sprint, further intensifying his late-season charge toward what could be a fifth consecutive championship title.
George Russell finished a close second place for Mercedes after fending off a determined challenge from Williams’ Carlos Sainz, who secured a commendable third place.
Ferrari pair Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc rounded out the top five, with Sainz’s Williams teammate Alex Albon taking a commendable sixth.
Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda finished seventh closely followed by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in eighth, while Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly completed the top ten.
The Sprint race was unfortunately marred by early drama as McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided at the start, forcing both drivers to retire from the race.
Piastri, attempting to assert his position, made contact with Nico Hulkenberg during the opening moments, which resulted in a chain reaction that physically forced the Australian driver’s car into his teammate Norris.
Additional incidents late in the race further impacted the field: Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll collided with Haas’ Esteban Ocon at Turn 1 with just a few laps remaining.
The crash was severe enough to bring out the safety car, which effectively ended the sprint behind the safety car and cemented Verstappen’s victory without further on-track battles in the closing laps.
