Former Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant is set to return to competitive racing after spending over a year away from the professional grid following his high-profile exit from the Williams F1 team.
The 24-year-old American is set to make a reentry into the world of endurance prototype racing after PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports LMP2 team confirmed his entry in two IMSA SportsCar Championship rounds this season.
Logan Sargeant first became a household name in the racing world thanks to a meteoric junior career. His pathway including podiums in FIA Formula 3, a fourth-place finish in FIA Formula 2, and ultimately 37 F1 Grand Prix starts for Williams established him as a symbol of the next generation of American racing talent.
In 2023 he became the first full-time American F1 driver since Scott Speed in 2007, injecting fresh excitement into the U.S. motorsport scene and drawing renewed international interest to his journey.
However, his F1 tenure was marked by intense pressure and disappointing results which forced Williams to permanently replace him with Franco Colapinto after the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.
While he only scored a single point at his home race, his sudden F1 exit shook many but also opened the door to a much-needed period of reset and reflection.
In early 2025, expectations were high for Sargeant’s move to the celebrated European Le Mans Series with Genesis Magma Racing in partnership with IDEC Sport. However, he surprisingly withdrew from the program before the season began.
Official statements at the time cited his need “to step away from the sport to pursue other interests,” a message that only deepened the sense of mystery around his future.
Logan Sargeant has now reaffirmed his commitment to competing at the highest levels of professional motorsport by joining PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for the final two events of the 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship LMP2 season.
“Myself and all the crew here at PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports are very excited that Logan is able to join us for the last two endurance events of this season,” said team co-owner Bobby Oergel.

“I am sure Logan’s pace will be top-notch and everyone will work well together. We really want to welcome him into our team in a smooth and easy fashion.
“The opportunity to do some testing ahead of the Indy event should do just that.”
The carefully selected program will see Sargeant take the wheel of the acclaimed #52 Oreca 07-Gibson, partnering with former IndyCar driver Benjamin Pedersen and Naveen Rao.
“I’m super excited to be jumping back into a car for the last two LMP2 races in IMSA with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports,” Sargeant said.
“It’s a great opportunity to drive at two special tracks, Indianapolis and Road Atlanta, and help push for good results with my team-mates Ben and Naveen.
“I’m eager to contribute to a successful couple races for the team, and bring my knowledge and experience to everyone involved.”
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway event on September 21 will mark Sargeant’s first competitive start since his F1 exit, with the season’s final showdown—the iconic Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta—set for October 11.
Both races represent major opportunities not only to showcase his talent but also to recalibrate his racing future, signaling commitment to a new chapter in endurance racing.
The move only comes after Sargeant was confirmed to join OGMM, a driver management company founded by five-time Le Mans 24 Hours class winner Oliver Gavin.
Gavin himself renowned for his prowess both on the track and in driver mentoring now manages Sargeant’s career alongside a select roster of GT and sportscar specialists.
