Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi overcame two crashes to claim the fastest lap in Friday afternoon’s practice, edging out KTM’s Pedro Acosta and championship leader Marc Marquez.
Other notable performances included Honda’s Joan Mir and Luca Marini who finished fourth and sixth respectively, the pair split by VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio in fifth.
Francesco Bagnaia, who had topped FP1, finished seventh after struggles with bike handling and setup which also affected his Ducati teammate Marquez.
Meanwhile, Yamaha showed some promise with Fabio Quartararo placing eighth after a determined push in the afternoon, improving from a slower FP1 where less preferred tyre choices were used.
Alex Marquez, languished at the back of the pack for much of the session and ended up 15th, marking the first time this year that he faces the early hurdle of Q1 qualifying.
Marc currently holds a substantial 182-point lead over Alex, adding an extra layer of intensity to the competition as he only needs a thin margin of points over his younger brother to clinch the 2025 MotoGP world title this weekend in Japan.
