Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi rose from a challenging start in Q1 to ultimately snatch pole position by just 0.016s over Alex Marquez while Francesco Bagnaia took third.
Marc Marquez who looked odds-on for pole suffered a late crash and had to settle for fourth ahead of Enea Bastianini on the leading KTM.
BK8 Gresini Ducati rookie Fermin Aldeguer qualified a cool sixth while Pedro Acosta resigned to seventh after suffering a “huge moment” in his final flyer that cost him several tenths.
Franco Morbidelli secured eighth-place for VR46 Ducati closely followed by Raul Fernandez who endured a crash in Q2 but still managed ninth, while Joan Mir rounded out the top ten for Honda.
