Marc Marquez converted his pole position into a commanding victory at the 2026 Hungarian MotoGP Sprint reaffirming his return to the championship battle after shoulder surgery.
The seven-time premier world champion led the 13-lap shootout from lights-to-flag and ultimately crossed the finish line 1.548 seconds ahead of Pedro Acosta to secure his 18th career Sprint win, matching Jorge Martin for the all-time Sprint victory record.
The dominance was so complete that Marquez extended his lead to over two seconds at multiple points during the race before easing his pace in the final laps.
From the moment the lights went out, Marquez immediately began pulling away from Acosta and went on to build a 1.1-second gap by Lap 2 before setting the fastest lap of the Sprint with a 1:37.901.
Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, meanwhile, jumped from sixth to third and launched a tough defense against Fermin Aldeguer’s aggressive attempts to claw back the position, with the Gresini Ducati rider hustling and pushing but finding no clean way ahead of the Italian through the early laps.
Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin made a notable error at Turn 9 on Lap 2 when he attempted to pass LCR rookie Diogo Moreira for sixth, but outbraked himself and ran wide. Martin remained patient and tried again at the same corner two laps later, this time making the pass stick.
Aldeguer’s fortunes took a dramatic turn when he suffered a big front-end moment at Turn 9 on Lap 3, gathering the bike all up but dropping to fifth position behind Raul Fernandez.
At the front, Marquez continued to extend his advantage to over two seconds over Acosta, while Bezzecchi held off Fernandez despite the Spaniard receiving a track limits warning for his aggressive defense.
Aldeguer continued fighting to salvage his weekend, closing the gap to Fernandez to just 0.3 seconds but went wide at Turn 5 on Lap 5.
The final three laps saw the top three positions remain completely static as Marquez maintained his commanding lead followed by Acosta, while Bezzecchi resisted Fernandez’s pressure to secure his second Sprint podium of the year.
Aldeguer settled for fifth, just ahead of Martin, with Diogo Moreira leading the Honda contingent in seventh.
Enea Bastianini delivered an impressive eighth-place finish from P14 on the grid, while Francesco Bagnaia took the final championship point in ninth position after holding off Fabio Di Giannantonio who messed up his start after qualifying fourth.
