Kimi Antonelli capped a sensational weekend in Montreal by storming to victory at the 2026 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, as his Mercedes team‑mate George Russell retired from the lead just over halfway through the race.
Russell battled Antonelli to lead the opening stages of the race but his hopes of winning evaporated after suffering a power unit failure on Lap 30, forcing him to withdraw from Sunday’s race in a bitter blow to his championship aspirations.
Antonelli inherited the top spot and proceeded to claim his fourth straight victory by over 10 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who took second after a close battle with Max Verstappen.
The Ferrari versus Red Bull fight spilled over to their teammates Charles Leclerc and Isack Hadjar who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, the latter rebounding from a 10-second penalty and a stop-and-go penalty.
Franco Colapinto took a career-best sixth place for Alpine, followed by Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and teammate Pierre Gasly. Williams’ Carlos Sainz and Haas’ Oliver Bearman rounded out the points.
