Acura IMSA GTP program confirmed for shutdown after 2026

Honda Racing Corporation USA has confirmed it will pause the Acura ARX‑06 LMDh program after the conclusion of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The move strips away the No. 93 and the No. 60 factory‑backed entries that have been running under Meyer Shank Racing since 2025, effectively closing the book on Acura’s current GTP operation even as the brand remains in the title‑sponsored Grand Prix of Long Beach.

HRC framed the decision as a “pause,” a term the industry has come to associate with an indefinite hiatus rather than a permanent shutdown.

”We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished during this era of Acura prototype racing, which began back in 2018 with the introduction of the Acura ARX-05 and we are committed to compete for the championship in IMSA’s GTP category through 2026 with the hybrid Acura ARX-06,” said President of Honda Racing Corporation USA David Salters.

“We’ve scored 25 wins, 34 poles and 10 championships during this time and look forward to finishing 2026 strong. I want to recognise all the talented women and men of HRC US, Acura, Meyer Shank Racing and ORECA who have worked tirelessly to get us to where we are in this highly competitive GTP field.”

The announcement comes just days after Acura Meyer Shank Racing’s Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly secured a hard‑earned victory at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, a result that highlighted the speed and maturity of the current ARX‑06 package.

Honda Racing Corporation USA has not offered a detailed breakdown of the specific internal factors that led to the decision, but the language of the official release clearly signals a strategic rebalancing rather than a short‑term austerity cut.

While the Acura IMSA GTP program will be paused, the automaker is redirecting its motorsport focus towards the NTT IndyCar Series where Meyer Shank Racing Honda entries will carry its branding at select races in 2026 including the Indianapolis 500.

“We’re excited for the Acura brand expansion into the NTT IndyCar Series and we can’t wait to see our Acura livery take on the Indy 500,” said Acura Brand Marketing manager Hundy Liu.

“We saw a great response to the livery on Felix Rosenqvist’s MSR car last week at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and I know it will be even more exciting to see the Acura brand on Marcus Armstrong’s car at Indianapolis.

“The IndyCar series has shown incredible growth in the last year and a half and we see it as a powerful opportunity to build awareness for our Acura brand—particularly on a stage where Honda-powered teams and drivers have been so successful recently. We look forward to this new chapter for Acura in motorsports.”
