Lando Norris reigned supreme with a late masterclass lap to claim F1 Brazil GP Sprint pole position ahead of Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri as Max Verstappen struggled in sixth.
The Formula 1 championship leader emerged as the standout performer, clinching his first sprint pole position of the season with a commanding lap time of 1:09.243.
Sprint qualifying at the iconic Interlagos circuit unfolded as a thrilling and high-stakes affair, setting the tone for one of the most eagerly anticipated weekends of the Formula 1 season.
The session began with medium tyres mandated for the first qualifying segment (SQ1), leading to a cautious yet strategic start.
Early pace was set by the McLaren team, with Oscar Piastri initially claiming the top spot with a lap time of 1:10.285, narrowly edging out Norris by a mere 0.025 seconds.
Fernando Alonso also put in a strong showing for Aston Martin, slotting into third, followed by Isack Hadjar and Lance Stroll, who demonstrated solid form.
Notably, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc found themselves outside the top tier early on with Hamilton seventh and Leclerc ninth, struggling to find rhythm and pace in their respective cars.
Max Verstappen was a late starter in the session but quickly stamped his authority by setting the fastest time, improving by almost two-tenths of a second, aided by a well-executed slipstream uphill at Juncao.
His session, however, was plagued by car balance issues, which he openly acknowledged, referring to his Red Bull RB21 as “broken,” significantly hampering his performance as the session progressed.
Mercedes’ George Russell briefly took over the fastest time before Norris unleashed a second flying lap that vaulted him to the top by over three-tenths of a second.
Piastri swiftly responded, re-establishing McLaren’s dominance by reclaiming the second-fastest time with Russell preventing Verstappen from breaking into the top three.
Kimi Antonelli later emerged as an unexpected contender, making a spectacular surge that ensured his place on the front row alongside Norris, despite having narrowly avoided elimination in the first qualifying segment (SQ1).
As the session advanced to what was effectively a shootout among the top drivers, Norris solidified his supremacy with a late masterclass lap claiming F1 Brazil GP Sprint pole position by a narrow margin of 0.097 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Antonelli.

Piastri settled for third, two-tenths behind his teammate, followed by Russell fourth and Fernando Alonso rounding out the top five with an impressive lap for Aston Martin.
Verstappen’s issues culminated in a sixth-place finish, followed by Lance Stroll in seventh, marking his best qualifying effort in the second half of the season for Aston Martin.
Charles Leclerc recovered from a tricky session which included a costly spin at Bico de Pato on his final lap to finish eighth. His teammate Hamilton was further down the order in 11th, compromised by a double-waved yellow flag infringement triggered by Leclerc’s spin, leading to a post-session investigation.
Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar and Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top ten.
Alex Albon (Williams), Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber) and Ollie Bearman (Haas) were knocked out in SQ2 despite showing promising pace early on.
Franco Colapinto, recently confirmed for a 2026 contract extension with Alpine, was down in 16th followed by Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson.
Yuki Tsunoda could only manage 18th-place finish in qualifying following a collision with the wall during practice which damaged his front wing, further casting uncertainty over his seat at Racing Bulls for 2026.
Esteban Ocon was similarly eliminated early, finishing 19th with Carlos Sainz rounding out the grid.
