Cadillac F1 team principal Graeme Lowdon has publicly confirmed ongoing talks with Mick Schumacher, signaling a serious consideration for the German driver’s potential return to the Formula 1 grid after a brief hiatus.
The American team is yet to confirm who will take their 2026 F1 seats as the team makes a debut, and with the summer break only a few weeks away they need to make a decision before the driver market heats up.
Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has been striving to reestablish himself in F1 since losing his race seat at Haas at the end of the 2022 season.
Despite a challenging stint with the American based outfit, where he scored only 12 points over two seasons and faced criticism for being crash-prone, Schumacher has maintained his commitment to motorsport.

The 26-year old has been spotted at recent Grands Prix including Austria and Silverstone alongside his advisor Dirk Muller, underscoring his determination to secure a full-time F1 seat once again.

“The situation is pretty good for us at the moment,” Lowdon told Sky Germany. “There are a lot of good drivers available—a mix of experienced drivers and new, up-and-coming drivers from Formula 2. I think we’ll see some movement in the driver market soon.
“Mick is great. He’s a very nice guy, I like him a lot. I’ve gotten to know him better now. He’s still young, but he already has Formula 1 experience.
“Sure, that was a while ago, but he’s kept up to date himself. He’s also done tests and is showing great interest in the project. We really like that. We like that a lot.”
The competition for 2026 F1 seats at Cadillac is fierce with several high-profile drivers also in contention. Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, Zhou Guanyu, and Felipe Drugovich have all been linked to the new team, each bringing their own blend of experience and skill.
Bottas in particular is a strong candidate given his extensive F1 background and availability. However, Lowdon’s candid acknowledgment that the driver list is “quite long” suggests that Cadillac is carefully weighing all options to build a competitive and balanced lineup for their debut season.
