Marc Marquez wins Italian MotoGP after wild Ducati battle against Alex and Bagnaia

The 2025 Italian MotoGP delivered yet another Marc Marquez win after a tense three-way Ducati battle against brother Alex Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia.

The latest edition of the Italian Grand Prix not only marked Marquez’s 93rd career win but also ended his Mugello drought, as he claimed his first premier class victory at the venue since 2014.

The race unfolded as a masterclass in racecraft, strategic tyre management, and relentless determination, with multiple riders showcasing their skill and resilience over 23 laps of high-octane action.

As the lights went out, pole sitter Marc Marquez seized the holeshot into turn 1, however, his Ducati Lenovo teammate Francesco Bagnaia wasted no time in launching an attack, overtaking Marquez into Turn 2.

The opening laps set the tone for what would become a relentless exchange of positions and tactics among the leading trio which included Marquez’s younger brother Alex Marquez.

The early phase of the race was characterized by a flurry of overtakes with Marc and Bagnaia trading blows at the front, each determined to establish control over the race pace and rhythm.

For the first six laps, Bagnaia appeared to be back to his best, matching Marquez’s pace and keeping the pressure on his teammate.

However, as the race progressed Bagnaia’s recurring front-end issues began to resurface as the 2023 MotoGP World Champion went wide in the dirty air at the final corner and gradually lost his race lead to Alex Marquez.

But the older Marquez ultimately found his rhythm and executed a decisive move to reclaim the lead from Alex, taking Mugello victory by almost two seconds. The remarkable Marc Marquez win extended his championship lead to 40 points.

Meanwhile, Bagnaia who was now struggling with his bike’s handling found himself increasingly under threat from the chasing pack with Fabio Di Giannantonio positioning himself for a final podium assault in the closing stages.

The penultimate lap saw Di Giannantonio launch a perfectly timed attack on Bagnaia to secure third place, as the latter settled in fourth—a disappointing result for the Italian who had hoped to extend his winning streak at his home Grand Prix.
