Here are the current F1 penalty points for each driver in the 2025 Formula 1 season along with expiry dates – Accumulation of 12 points on the FIA super licence leads to automatic race ban.
The system, introduced to monitor and penalize dangerous or unsporting behavior, assigns points for various infractions such as causing collisions, ignoring yellow flags, or failing to maintain proper safety car procedures.
If a driver accrues 12 F1 penalty points within a rolling 12-month period they are automatically suspended for one race. This rule has already resulted in a race ban for Kevin Magnussen in 2024 who became the first driver to miss a Grand Prix.
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, the penalty points situation across the grid is particularly tense with reigning world champion Max Verstappen sitting on the brink of a race ban.
Verstappen currently holds 11 penalty points, just one shy of the threshold that would see his FIA super licence suspended for a race—a scenario that would be unprecedented for a reigning champion.
The most recent addition to Verstappen’s tally came from the 2025 F1 Spanish Grand Prix where he was deemed responsible for a collision with Russell, earning him three penalty points—the most severe single-race penalty he has received in the past year.

Liam Lawson follows as the next most penalized active driver, with five penalty points to his name. His points are the result of incidents involving Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll, and Nico Hulkenberg, with the infractions ranging from causing collisions to failing to avoid contact in close racing situations.
Several other drivers are also carrying penalty points into the heart of the 2025 F1 season. Oscar Piastri has accrued four points primarily from collisions with Franco Colapinto and Liam Lawson at the Abu Dhabi and Brazilian Grands Prix, respectively.
Nico Hulkenberg is also on four points with penalties for incidents involving Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda. F1 rookies Jack Doohan and Oliver Bearman have also reached the four-point mark, each with penalties stemming from collisions and on-track errors.
Lando Norris currently has three penalty points all awarded for failing to slow for double-waved yellow flags during the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix.
