Gresini’s Alex Marquez dominated opening practice for the 2025 Portuguese MotoGP with a blazing lap of 1m39.145s.
Marco Bezzecchi emerged as Marquez’s closest challenger throughout Portimao FP1, finishing just 0.196 seconds behind, confirming his status as a key contender on the demanding track.
Jack Miller was the top Yamaha rider in third place for the Prima Pramac Racing squad, followed by LCR Honda Castrol rider Johann Zarco and KTM Tech3’s Pol Espargaro who recovered to fifth after an early crash.
Franco Morbidelli was the second Ducati rider to feature inside the top ten after clocking the sixth fastest lap for VR46 Racing. Honda HRC duo of Luca Marini and Joan Mir followed in seventh and eighth place.
KTM’s Pedro Acosta and Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top ten.
The session also marked the debut of World Superbike star Nicolo Bulega on the factory Ducati machinery, finishing an impressive 14th overall.
Bulega’s transition to MotoGP saw him adapting quickly to the top-tier prototype bike, putting in times that were less than a second off the leaders and notably faster than his factory Ducati teammate, Pecco Bagnaia, who closed FP1 in 17th place.
